A performance review of performance reviews

You read it here: in the next decade the annual performance review will be about as relevant as the floppy disk. The workplace revolution has arrived and it has left little room for numerical indicators conjoined with staid phrasing like ‘She/He demonstrates an ability to apply new skills’. Instead an era of real-time feedback, focusing on strengths, and an increased onus on managers, to not only measure but mentor, has begun.

Science has spoken. Or at least the scientists have. Dr. Samuel Culbert is a professor of Management at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management.

And when talking about the value of the performance review, he pulls no punches. In fact, he refers to reviews as “Corporate America’s curse on itself.” In this white paper, we look at real-time recognition & feedback as a replacement for the traditional once-a-year performance review.
