Did the Going Get Tough? Keep Employees Engaged!

Did the Going Get Tough? Keep Employees Engaged!

| Kudos Superstars

We’ve recently spoken with a few clients who, unfortunately due to economic difficulties, have had to lay off some of their workforce. Now, they feel as though the remaining staff is not confident about their future in the company, and as a result, have become disengaged. This turned into a great opportunity for us to discuss ways to engage employees during difficult times.

Engaging employees after a reduction in force (RIF) was a hot topic about three years ago, at the height of the economic recession. Unfortunately, many businesses are still suffering the effects of the recession. After doing a little research in a few blogs, websites, and discussion forums, I compiled some advice and steps that you, as leaders of your company, can take to ensure that employees feel secure and engaged. Here, I will outline how to use Kudos in conjunction with the three steps to dealing with a difficult time suggested by Leadership Beyond Limits, LLC: Healing, Hope, and Health.

Five Quick Tips for Building Team Communication - Don’t Play Telephone!

| Tom Short

Do you remember playing ‘Telephone’ when you were little? A message was passed down the line, whispered from person to person, and by the time it reached the end, the message was so different from the original that it had everyone giggling hysterically.

In the corporate world, trying to communicate with an enormous team can be exactly like playing Telephone... Only most of the time, it’s a lot less funny, and a lot more damaging.

So, how do you streamline communication? How do you connect the disconnected?

Who is in Charge of Your Culture?

Who is in Charge of Your Culture?

There is an amazing trend happening in businesses all over the world. Culture is once again a top priority for many organizations, large and small. The truth is, every company has a culture. But the question that must be asked is, “is it the right culture?”

In a recent article by Jennifer King, an HR Analyst at Software Advice, she highlighted what some companies are doing to build their Culture. Kudos to Jen on a great article, I recommend your check it out.

The challenge for all organizations is creating the culture they want and managing it  -- or more accurately protecting and nurturing it. As Jennifer pointed out, it starts at the top. As companies grow they also need someone who is responsible for protecting the culture. Having a culture chief is a good idea. If an organization is not focused on what they want to create, they will leave the most important aspect of their business to chance. And you may not like what you get in the end.

We’re always curious to know how our clients use Kudos to increase employee engagement in their organization. Kudos is a simple yet comprehensive recognition platform that allows users to create their own programs to engage and reward their colleagues. We encourage all our clients to get creative and Thank Different!

A great way to get employees excited about Kudos, is to start off the program with a bang! Organize a fun team activity to explain the purpose of the program, and any rewards associated with it. This will get the team excited and help them understand how sending kudos helps build a culture or appreciation. Kicking it off with the right foot is key to a successful recognition program! Columbia Orthopaedic Group did just that! They implemented the Kudos program in their organization with a fun activity that involved all their employees!

First Impressions

On the first day of a new job, both employer and employee have to be on top of their game. If you’ve hired a good fit, they’ll be doing their best to make a positive impression on you. But good impressions should go both ways. If you want your newbie to stick around, it’s important that your company culture is a good fit for them as well.

Making a good impression on a new hire might be easier than you’d expect. Who knew that something as simple as a box of chocolates could affect employee engagement?

We here at Kudos Inc. are proud to announce that our program is now available in Spanish!

As we look to expand our business internationally, it has become vital that users have the ability to use Kudos in other languages besides English. As of April 3rd 2012, Kudos accounts can be set to either English or Spanish. Don't worry French Canadians, Germans, Scandinavians... we will be adding more languages as we go along and demands arise!

Why Spanish and how exactly do I switch my Kudos to Spanish? You can do this in one of two ways: 1) As an Admin, you can change the default language for your entire company, and 2) you can set the language for your individual account, regardless of what the company's default is.
