Nacho Average Cinco de Mayo Office Party

Celebrating holidays and events tells your team that you value not only their wellbeing but camaraderie as well. Cinco de Mayo parties are full of energy, and there are lots of fun and tasty traditions you can bring into the workplace. For Cinco de Mayo to be a success, be sure to mark this event in your Kudos Calendar ahead of time, and make an Announcement when the details are confirmed.

A Full Fiesta

Use the Mexican flag colours of green, red, and white as the foundation of your décor and then accent tables with maracas and doors with chilli pepper wreaths. Try changing your Kudos theme that day to remind everyone of the event and set the party mood! You can even buy a few props (like chilli necklaces, sombreros and funky sunglasses) for everyone to wear throughout the day.

Have lunch catered in, or take the team out to a Mexican restaurant. Serve up some traditional Mexican fare like carne asada with rice, fajitas, or cheesy enchiladas. For drinks, consider margaritas or a non-alcoholic citrus punch, depending on your office policies. Don’t forget dessert! Caramel flan and tres leches cake are big crowd pleasers.

Make it fun by playing mariachi music or have someone teach the rest of the group to dance the Macarena or the infamous Mexican Hat Dance. It’s not a real fiesta without a piñata, so be sure to either bring one or make your own piñata out of a papier mâché balloon.

Fiestas can get feisty, so if only a particular department is invited, be mindful of other individuals by keeping the noise and decor at a reasonable level.

Celebrating on a Budget

The best way to celebrate on a budget is to have a potluck, and a taco bar is perfect for that. By having lots of different taco fillings, you’ll likely please everyone from meat lovers to vegetarians. This also allows everyone to learn about each other’s hidden cooking talents. A Kudos Page is a perfect way to manage potluck assignments and event details.

Keeping it Simple

If you don’t quite have the time to stop and celebrate, keep it simple with a little décor and easy finger food. You could order nachos, or set up a quick buffet table with chips and dip (think queso, sour cream, pico de gallo, and/or guacamole), cinnamon brownies and lemon-flavoured soft drinks. Decorate the buffet table with a nice tablecloth and fun props, and serve at lunchtime or at a large meeting.

Be sure to post pictures of your event on a Kudos Page, and recognize everyone who helped to organize and execute the event.
